I think i got my dad's genes and am short but i still tower him at 5'5. He's only 4'7.5" tall/short. Reached my height at 13 and stopped growing then.

But my dad has 2 younger brothers who are 6'6 and 6'7. HUGE difference and still the same genes...

I think it's a combination of genetics, nutrition, exercise, and a bunch of other environmental and biological factors. Of course, there are also situations where diseases and disorders cause excessive growth.

Regardless, I'm beginning to not really find fascination with stories about extremely tall people (especially teens and kids) who come from a tall family, but are apparently "impressive" because they also grew to be tall (as if nobody saw that coming in the first place)... one example is Olivier Rioux (a 7 foot 12 year old). He made news because of his height... which was quite interesting at first... until I learned that his dad and older brother are also pretty much around the same height. And then the fascination kinda died down for me... this happens pretty much all the time when I learn something like that. I mean, why do we act like it's so amazing for a teen to end up being extremely tall when he literally has family who are the same way? And in most cases, the teen is pretty much done growing by the time their news story comes out, so it's not like they're gonna end up being way taller in the end.

I know this was kinda off topic, but I was just kinda thinking about that lol

I think it's interesting when you see a family where the kid (or kids) are taller than their father. Even if just a few inches. I often wonder how dad feels.
