What's the point, met a guy that said he is too tall at 6ft4. In person he finally stands up and is over 7ft1!
I wish I got so lucky! To me it is usually the opposite. E.g. on a dating site a guy claims to be 6ft6 and when we meet in person he turns out to be shorter than me! The worst so far has been a guy who stated his height as 6ft10 and he was actually my height. When I questioned him, he still insisted to be 6ft10. ???
Btw, what was wrong with 7ft1? Didn't you like him? Can I have him please? ;-)

It is rare for someone to say that they measure less than they actually measure. Right ?

I dated a guy that was 5'7" and that was his height in his profile. A year later he was suggested and I saw he changed his height to 5'11". That was always the problem with his lies. He wasn't a bad liar because he couldn't act like he really meant it, he could do that. The lie itself always just slightly overstepped the boundary of reasonable.

There's a guy on Instagram that said he was 6'6" which he probably is. He had a story with a picture of him next to a minor Instagram celebrity that is 5'10" very recently. Then not even two weeks later posted and in the comments gave a stats update. He previously changed his height to 6'8". Then he changed it to 204cm, then 205cm, now his status says 206cm which is slightly over 6'9". Before that he said he was measured by a military recruiter at 6'10". A guy that is 6'9" commented "you're pushing it" and his comment was deleted. Besides standing next to a guy that is 5'10", he frequently takes pictures in a mirror with his shoulder nearly touching the tile wall protector and the height of his shoulder against the tile has not moved an inch in at least 18 months. I suspect he will say he's 207cm in two to three months. He discovered the taller he says he is the more followers he gets and he likes being tall, like 6'6" in the 99th percentile isn't enough.

What do you think is acceptable fudging, a half inch, an inch, or more?

I was going to say, in the age of self-promotion social media there is much more incentive now to push it, and indeed that seems to be his motivation.

Sites like this it happens but it's not representative because objectification by males does weird things and will leave it at that.

I assume that at least US men are an about an inch shorter on average than what they claim, there's just so much inflation. Shoes or not also matter, and time of day and posture of the measurement does affect it by a cm or two. Fudging half an inch is fine, there's the diurnal and posture variation anyway (owing to how compressed the spine is) and some rounding can be assumed -though if one 6'6.25" they're more 6'6" than 6'7".

That's an instance of a nice surprise! I assume in his case he just didn't want it to be the only thing discussed, nor to be sought out and objectified. Extremely tall guys (and women) not uncommonly conceal their heights at dating sites/hookup apps and such because of this. It's better to not mention it on a profile than to lie, though, and especially to be forthcoming if it comes up in conversation although I do understand why some are reluctant.

That's reasonable and is what I think. An inch is fine because of the variations you mentioned. It's hard to nail down a height closer than 2/3" and that makes it impossible to say what someone's exact precise height is. Over two is more than those variations or metric conversion, even a combination of variation and conversion can account for. I read about something where the difference between actual and dating profile average was I think 2.5" It seems like that is a reasonable fib and more is lying.

I’ll usually just tell people I’m 7ft1 if they’re just asking to ask or if I’m being carded because I never updated my ID. *shrug*

No point really. I had the opposite and grew into it. When I got my learner's permit at 15 they put what turned out to be my final height and I just left it and it was put on my driver's license and then everything after that because the clerk at whatever state DMV or ID issuer you're getting a new license or ID from from copies your current one.

I have a question, why do American driving licences have height on them?

So when you get asked to show your ID they can verify your face and height match up with what you have recorded. Some bars who take ID laws seriously won’t allow you inside of your height doesn’t match the ID. haha

Because they are also what is used as the main government ID so they have all the details of your description, eye colour, hair colour, weight, height, and sex.

Ah thats interesting, here in the UK we only have name, date/place of birth and address on it. I wish they had height on it because I used to have to ID some tall customers at work and I wish I could've found out their height!
